Frequently asked questions

At Bailey's Spoods, i believe that informed owners are happy owners. My passion for regal jumping spiders drives me to provide you with the best information and support. Below, you'll find answers to common questions about these fascinating creatures and insights into their care, reflecting my commitment to quality and integrity.

Are jumping spiders dangerous?

Not at all! Jumping spiders are considered one of the most friendly and curious spider species. They are not aggressive and would much rather watch you than bite. Their tiny bites are extremely rare and usually no worse than a bee sting.

Do jumping spiders make webs?

They don’t make large webs like other spiders! Jumping spiders create tiny silk hammocks to sleep, molt, and feel safe in.

What do jumping spiders eat?

Jumping spiders eat live insects such as: fruit flies, mealworms, small crickets, bottle flies, and roaches. Feeder size depends on the spider’s age and size.

How often do they need water?

Jumping spiders need light misting on the enclosure walls every 1–2 days so they can drink water droplets. Fresh airflow is also important.

What kind of enclosure do they need?

Jumping spiders thrive in ventilated enclosures with climbing space, hides, and decor. Avoid top-opening enclosures to protect their hammocks.

Give them time to adjust

Your new spood may be shy for the first few days after coming home. This is completely normal! Let them settle in before handling too much.

Avoid top-opening enclosures

Jumping spiders usually build their hammocks near the top of the enclosure. Top-opening lids can accidentally destroy their hammock every time you open it.

Mist lightly

A light mist on the side of the enclosure every 1–2 days gives your spider water droplets to drink. Avoid soaking the enclosure.

Keep temperatures comfortable

Most jumping spiders do best around 70–80°F. Avoid cold drafts, direct sunlight, or overheating near windows.

Lighting helps activity

Jumping spiders are very visual and usually more active during the daytime with good lighting. Natural indirect light or soft LED lighting works great.

Don’t panic if they skip meals

Sometimes jumping spiders refuse food before a molt. If your spood is in premolt, they may not eat for a few days to a week. If they are not in premolt and still refusing food, try offering a different type of prey or re-evaluating their environment.
